Every Aether fragrance begins and ends with the same person. Dave Martin composes each one himself and makes it by hand, in-house, in La Conner, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest.

One perfumer

The person who decided what 04 Tea Beneath Clouds should smell like is the person who made the batch your bottle came from.

It also means the email address on this site reaches him. Dave answers every message himself. Tell him what you wear now and he will suggest one of the eight, for you or for someone you are buying for, and he can add a handwritten note to the order.

Why extrait

Every Aether fragrance is an extrait de parfum at a concentration of 30% or more.

Chapter One comes in 10 mL, 30 mL and 50 mL. Start with 10 mL to get to know a fragrance before choosing a larger bottle. For a view on what a composition can leave out, read The Case for Fewer Ingredients.

The eight in Chapter One

Each of the eight has an essay of its own in the Note by Note series, beginning with Before The Crown, Note by Note, and every note above has an entry in The Notes. How tea found its way into two of them is its own story: How Tea Got Into Perfume. The oud in 05 has one too: Oud Without the Mythology.
