Before The Crown, Note by Note
Cool pineapple and citrus meet smoke and ashen birch in 01 Before The Crown.
Pineapple
Cool pineapple gives 01 its sharp, juicy fruit character.
For another fruit-led direction, 02 What Remains of Summer puts ripe mango first, with pomelo, ginger, dry amber and vetiver.
Citrus
The note list names citrus without specifying a fruit. It sits beside the pineapple.
Other Chapter One fragrances carry citrus differently: pomelo beside mango in 02; orange and bergamot with ginger in 06 Sun Through Linen; and bergamot and ginger with smoky black tea in 08 Beyond The Horizon.
Birch
Birch gives 01 an ashen wood note alongside the smoke. It is the only Chapter One fragrance whose published note list names birch.
A note describes an impression and does not by itself confirm a specific ingredient. The Note Pyramid Is a Marketing Diagram makes that case at length.
Smoke
Smoke sits against the fruit. It also appears in 05 Plum Beneath Snow, with smoked oud and resin, and in 08, with smoky black tea.
01 puts smoke against pineapple and citrus. 02 leads with mango and pomelo, with ginger, dry amber and vetiver. If you are choosing between the two, or among all eight, Find Your Fragrance lays them out by family.
