Beyond The Horizon, Note by Note
08 Beyond The Horizon pairs bright bergamot and ginger with smoky black tea and warm amber woods.
Bergamot and ginger
Bergamot brings brightness, with a ginger edge against the smoky tea. These are contrasts in the scent description, not a timetable for how it develops on skin.
The Note Pyramid Is a Marketing Diagram explores the limits of top, heart and base descriptions. For another fruit-and-smoke contrast, 01 Before The Crown pairs pineapple and citrus with birch.
Black tea
Tea extracts do exist in perfumery: dsm-firmenich produces a black-tea extract from tea leaves. A black-tea note alone does not tell us which materials a fragrance contains. How Tea Got Into Perfume compares the chapter’s two tea fragrances.
The black-tea note in 08 is smoky. Beside bergamot and ginger, it gives the citrus a darker contrast.
The other tea is 04 Tea Beneath Clouds, oolong with bergamot, fig and soft musk. 08 pairs its tea with ginger and warm amber woods.
Amber and woods
In perfumery, amber often describes a warm, resinous accord rather than one material. Amber woods are a distinct woody direction. In 08, warm amber woods sit beside smoky tea.
This is where 08 meets 07 The Last Golden Hour and 05 Plum Beneath Snow, two other warm fragrances in the chapter. 07 goes there by way of tobacco, rum and vanilla; 05 by way of plum, spice and oud. 08 gets there by way of tea.
Choosing between the teas
If you are choosing between the two teas, or between 08 and the warmer bottles, Find Your Fragrance lays all eight out by scent family.

Sources on perfumery materials: dsm-firmenich: black-tea extract; Maison Francis Kurkdjian: ingredient glossary. These describe materials generally, not the ingredients in an Aether formula.
